Recent problems with inflation, product shortages, and falling markets all demonstrate the power of uncertainty. Most of our early experiences in life, if we are lucky, are in controlled environments: home, school, and church. Coming out of these places of order, we are protected from the uncertainties of the larger world. We are raised and educated to think that the future is predictable and the information that we need is readily available. Even in our first jobs outside the home, we only have to follow directions and do as we are told to be rewarded. These early experiences create false expectations of future certainty. Our real opportunities, however, are all found in the uncertain chaos of change.
